Hayden Brownell is an experimental physicist and entrepreneur. He earned a BS degree in physics from Yale University and doctorate in physics from Columbia University on optical coherent transient phenomena. Dr. Brownell taught undergraduate and graduate physics courses and conducted research on miniature free electron lasers for twelve years at Dartmouth College. He then left academia to start a company developing novel "green" microwave chemical processors that greatly reduce chemical production cost, waste, power consumption, and time to market. That experience developing process optimization algorithms inspired this treatise.
